Product safety and hazard information
Last updated 10 October 2026
Flame, electricity and fragrance all need a little care. This page brings together the safety rules for every OSMA product. The instructions in the box and the label on each product always come first: please read them before use and keep them.
For every product
- Keep products out of reach of children and pets.
- Use them indoors, on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, in a room with some fresh air.
- Never leave a flame or a switched-on appliance unattended. Put out flames and switch off before you leave the room or go to bed.
- Keep flames and hot surfaces away from curtains, shelves above, paper, fabrics and anything else that can catch fire.
- Stop using any glass piece that is chipped or cracked.
Tealight burners
The Pendant Burner and the Amber Burner.
- Always fill the glass vessel with water before lighting the tealight, then add 5 to 10 drops of fragrance oil to the water. Never put oil into an empty vessel.
- Never let the water run dry. Top it up only after blowing out the tealight and letting the glass cool, as cold water on hot glass can crack it.
- Use one standard tealight at a time, in its own cup, placed in the base as shown in the instructions.
- The glass, the metal and the water get hot. Do not touch or move the burner while it is lit, or until it has cooled completely.
- Keep the burner away from draughts, and never place it on or near another source of heat.
- Once cool, empty the vessel and wipe the glass with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water.
Incense cones
- Light the tip, let it flame for a few seconds, then blow the flame out so the cone glows, and set it on its glass holder or the marble dish. Never burn a cone straight on a table or shelf.
- The holder and the dish get hot. Do not touch or move them while a cone is burning, or until they have cooled.
- Burn incense in a room with some fresh air, away from draughts. Smoke can irritate eyes and airways, so do not breathe it in directly, and stop if it bothers you or anyone else in the room.
- Make sure every cone has fully gone out, with no glow left, before you leave the room. Empty the ash only once it is cold.
Reed diffusers
- Stand the diffuser where it cannot be knocked over, away from heat, naked flames and direct sun.
- The liquid can mark or damage wood, painted, varnished or polished finishes, plastics and fabrics. If your surface is delicate, stand the diffuser on a tray or mat, and wipe up any spill at once.
- To refresh the scent, turn the reed over above a sink or a sheet of paper towel, then wash your hands.
- Do not move the diffuser with the reed in it when it is full.
- The liquid is not for use on skin, and must not be swallowed.
Fragrance oils
- Use them only as directed: a few drops in the water of a burner, or poured into the glass of the Dial Diffuser.
- Never pour oil onto a flame, a tealight or a hot surface.
- Not for use on skin, in food or in the bath, and not to be swallowed.
- Oil can mark surfaces and finishes. Wipe up drips at once.
- Close the cap after use, and store bottles upright, somewhere cool and out of direct sun.
Wax melts
- Use our melts in an electric melt warmer such as the Wax Warmer, one melt at a time in the silicone dish. Do not put them in the Pendant Burner or the Amber Burner.
- Melted wax is hot. Do not touch it, and do not move the warmer until the wax has set again.
- Never add water to melted wax.
- To change scent, let the wax set and cool, then press it out of the silicone dish.
- Melts can look like sweets: keep them well away from children and pets. Not to be eaten.
The Wax Warmer
- It comes with a UK plug. Plug it straight into a wall socket, and do not use it if the cable or plug is damaged.
- Indoor use only. Keep it dry and never put it in water.
- Stand it on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, and do not cover it while it is on.
- The top and the dish get hot. Use the timer, switch off and unplug after use, and let it cool before you move it or change the melt.
- It is not a toy. Keep it, and its cable, out of reach of children and pets.
The Dial Diffuser
- It runs on a rechargeable battery and takes pure fragrance oil only: no water.
- Fill the glass vessel on a flat surface, over a cloth, without going beyond the level shown in the instructions. Wipe up any spill before charging or switching on.
- Charge it with the USB-C cable supplied, from a USB power adapter that meets UK safety standards. Charge it on a hard surface, never on a bed, sofa or cushion, and do not leave it charging for long periods when nobody is at home.
- If it gets unusually hot, swells, leaks or smells of burning, unplug it, stop using it and contact us.
- Indoor use only. Keep it dry, never put it in water, and do not try to open the base.
- Switch it off before you move it, as spilled oil can mark surfaces.
Hazard information for oils, reed diffuser liquid and melts
Contains fragrance ingredients that may cause an allergic skin reaction. Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Full hazard information is on the label.
This applies to our fragrance oils, the liquid in our reed diffusers and our wax melts, and it is shown on each of their product pages before you buy. Because of the effect on aquatic life, do not pour leftover oil or reed diffuser liquid down a sink or drain: dispose of it in line with your local council's guidance.
First aid
- On skin: wash with plenty of soap and water. If irritation or a rash appears, get medical advice.
- In the eyes: rinse gently with water for several minutes, removing contact lenses if this is easy. If irritation continues, get medical advice.
- If swallowed: rinse the mouth with water. Do not try to make the person sick. Get medical advice straight away and show the label or the packaging.
- Burns: cool the burn under cool running water for twenty minutes, and get medical help if it is large, deep or on the face.
- Smoke: if smoke bothers you, move to fresh air.
For medical advice, call NHS 111 (in Northern Ireland, your GP, or the GP service that covers evenings and weekends). In an emergency, call 999.
Children and pets
Keep every product, including oils, melts, cones, reed diffusers and cables, where children and pets cannot reach them. Never leave a lit burner or burning incense in a room with a child or a pet on their own. Some animals, cats and birds in particular, are sensitive to fragrance and smoke: use our products in a room your pet can leave, and ask your vet if you are unsure.
Electrical items and recycling
The Wax Warmer and the Dial Diffuser are electrical items. Electrical items marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin must not go in your household bin. When they reach the end of their life, take them to your local household waste recycling centre, which collects small electrical items. The Dial Diffuser contains a rechargeable battery: never put it in a household bin, where batteries can cause fires. You can find your nearest recycling point on Recycle Now.
Reporting a safety concern
If you think one of our products is unsafe, stop using it and email us at skoltartllc@outlook.com with "Safety" in the subject line, the product name, your order number if you have it, and photos if you can. We treat safety messages as a priority. If anyone has been hurt, get medical help first.
You can also report an unsafe product to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer service.
Recalls and safety notices
If we ever need to recall a product or share a safety notice, we will email everyone who bought it, using the email address given with the order. We will also publish a notice on this page and on the product page, explaining clearly what to do and how we will put it right, at no cost to you. Product recalls in the UK are also listed on GOV.UK.
