Product Safety

Last updated October 10, 2026

Our products work with flame, heat, electricity and concentrated fragrance, so each one needs a little care. This page brings together the safety instructions for every OSMA product. The instructions in the box and the label on each product come first: please read them before use and keep them.

For every product

  • Keep every product out of reach of children and pets.
  • Use products indoors, on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, in a room with some fresh air.
  • Never leave a flame or a switched-on appliance unattended. Put out flames and switch off before you leave the room or go to bed.
  • Stop using any glass piece that is chipped or cracked.
  • Use each product only for what it is made for, as described in its instructions.

Fire safety

  • Keep tea lights, burning cones and hot surfaces at least 12 inches (30 cm) from anything that can catch fire: curtains, bedding, books, paper, dried flowers, decorations and shelves above.
  • Keep flames away from drafts, open windows, fans and vents, which can make a flame flare or tip.
  • Never move a burner or a holder while it is lit or hot.
  • Do not use flame products where medical oxygen is used.
  • Make sure your home has working smoke alarms.
  • If oil or wax ever catches fire, never throw water on it. If it is safe to do so, cover it with a metal lid or a fire blanket to smother the flame. If the fire spreads, leave the room, close the door and call 911.

Burners and tea lights

The Pendant Burner and the Amber Burner.

  • Always fill the glass vessel with water before you light the tea light, then add 5 to 10 drops of fragrance oil to the water. Never put oil into an empty vessel, and never heat the glass empty.
  • Never let the water run dry. Top it up only after you have put out the tea light and the glass has cooled.
  • Use one standard tea light at a time, in its own metal cup, placed in the base as shown in the instructions.
  • The glass, the metal and the water get hot. Do not touch or move the burner while it is lit, or until it has cooled completely.
  • Once it is cool, empty the vessel and wipe the glass with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water.

Hot glass

  • Glass vessels, cone holders and the marble dish get hot during use and stay hot for a while after. Let them cool completely before you touch, fill, empty or wash them.
  • Pouring cold water onto hot glass, or setting hot glass down on a cold or wet surface, can make it crack.
  • Glass can break if it is knocked or dropped. If a piece breaks, keep children and pets away, wear gloves to pick up the pieces, wrap them in thick paper or cardboard and follow your local rules for disposal.

Cone incense

  • Light the tip, let it flame for a few seconds, then blow the flame out so the cone glows, and set it on its glass holder or the marble dish. Never burn a cone straight on a table or a shelf.
  • The holder and the dish get hot. Do not touch or move them while a cone is burning, or until they have cooled.
  • Burn incense in a room with some fresh air. Smoke can irritate eyes and airways: do not breathe it in directly, and stop if it bothers you or anyone else in the room.
  • Make sure every cone has fully gone out, with no glow left, before you leave the room. Empty the ash only once it is cold.

Reed diffusers

  • Stand the diffuser where it cannot be knocked over, away from heat, flames and direct sun.
  • The liquid can mark or damage wood, painted, varnished or polished finishes, plastics, stone and fabrics. If your surface is delicate, stand the diffuser on a tray or a mat, and wipe up any spill at once.
  • To refresh the scent, turn the reed over above a sink or a sheet of paper towel, then wash your hands.
  • Do not move the diffuser with the reed in it when it is full.
  • The liquid is not for use on skin and must never be swallowed. Use it only in its own vessel.

Fragrance oils

  • Use them only as directed: 5 to 10 drops in the water of a burner, or poured into the glass of the Dial Diffuser.
  • Never pour oil onto a flame, a tea light or a hot surface.
  • Not for use on skin, in food or in the bath, and never to be swallowed.
  • Oil can mark surfaces and finishes. Wipe up drips at once.
  • Close the cap after use and store bottles upright, somewhere cool, out of direct sun and away from flames.

Wax melts

  • Use our melts in an electric melt warmer such as our Wax Warmer, one melt at a time. Never use them with a flame, and do not put them in the Pendant Burner or the Amber Burner.
  • Melted wax is hot. Do not touch it, and do not move the warmer until the wax has set again.
  • Never add water to melted wax.
  • To change scent, let the wax set and cool, then press it out of the silicone dish.
  • Melts can look like candy: keep them well away from children and pets. They must never be eaten.

Electric items

The Wax Warmer and the Dial Diffuser are flame-free, but they still need care.

  • The Wax Warmer has a type A plug (two flat pins) for 100 to 120 V outlets, the standard in the United States. The Dial Diffuser charges by USB-C from a USB power adapter plugged into the same kind of outlet. Do not use them with a voltage converter or a travel adapter in other countries.
  • Indoor use only. Keep them dry, never put them in water, and never touch them with wet hands.
  • Do not use an item if its cable, plug or housing is damaged. Do not try to open or repair it: contact us.
  • They are not toys. Keep them, and their cables, out of reach of children and pets.

The Wax Warmer

  • Plug it straight into a wall outlet.
  • Stand it on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, and do not cover it while it is on.
  • The top and the dish get hot. Use the timer, switch off and unplug after use, and let it cool before you move it or change the melt.

The Dial Diffuser

  • It runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and takes fragrance oil only: no water.
  • Fill the glass vessel on a flat surface, over a cloth, without going beyond the level shown in the instructions. Wipe up any spill before you charge it or switch it on.
  • Charge it with the USB-C cable supplied, from a USB power adapter in good condition plugged into a standard wall outlet. Charge it on a hard surface, never on a bed, a sofa or a cushion, and do not leave it charging when nobody is at home.
  • If it gets unusually hot, swells, leaks or smells of burning, unplug it at once, stop using it, move it away from anything that can catch fire if it is safe to do so, and contact us.
  • Switch it off before you move it: spilled oil can mark surfaces.

Hazard information

Contains fragrance ingredients that may cause an allergic skin reaction. Harmful to aquatic life. Read the label before use.

This applies to our fragrance oils, the liquid in our reed diffusers and our wax melts, and it is shown on each of their product pages before you buy. Because of the effect on aquatic life, do not pour leftover oil or reed diffuser liquid down a sink, a toilet or a drain, or onto the ground. Take leftovers to your local household hazardous waste collection, and recycle or throw away empty bottles as your local rules allow.

Children and pets

  • Keep every product, including oils, melts, cones, reed diffusers and cables, where children and pets cannot reach them.
  • Never leave a lit burner or burning incense in a room with a child or a pet on their own.
  • Some animals, cats and birds in particular, are sensitive to fragrance and smoke. Use our products in a room your pet can leave, and ask your veterinarian if you are unsure.
  • If a pet licks or swallows oil, reed diffuser liquid or a melt, call your veterinarian or an animal poison control center right away.

First aid

  • On skin: wash with soap and plenty of water. If irritation or a rash appears, get medical advice.
  • In the eyes: rinse gently with lukewarm running water for 15 minutes, removing contact lenses if this is easy. If irritation continues, get medical advice.
  • If swallowed: do not try to make the person vomit. Rinse the mouth with water and call Poison Control right away at 1-800-222-1222, with the label or the packaging at hand.
  • Burns: cool the burn under cool running water for at least 10 minutes. Do not use ice, butter or creams. Get medical help if the burn is large or deep, if it is on the face or the hands, or if a child is burned.
  • Smoke: if smoke bothers you, move to fresh air.

Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) connects you to your local poison center, 24 hours a day, every day. If someone has trouble breathing, collapses, has a seizure or cannot be woken, call 911.

Battery and electrical disposal

  • The Dial Diffuser contains a lithium-ion battery. Never put it in your household trash or curbside recycling bin, where batteries can start fires in collection trucks and facilities. Take the whole diffuser to a battery drop-off point or a household hazardous waste collection. You can find drop-off points near you through Call2Recycle, and read more on the EPA website.
  • The Wax Warmer is a small electronic item. When it reaches the end of its life, take it to an electronics recycling point. Your city or county can tell you where.

Reporting a safety concern

If you think one of our products is unsafe, stop using it and email us at skoltartllc@outlook.com with "Safety" in the subject line, the product name, your order number if you have it, and photos if you can. We treat safety messages as a priority. If anyone has been hurt, get medical help first.

You can also report an unsafe product to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission at SaferProducts.gov.

Recalls and safety notices

If we ever need to recall a product or share a safety notice, we will email everyone who bought it, using the email address given with the order. We will also publish a notice on this page and on the product page, explaining clearly what to do and how we will put it right, at no cost to you. Product recalls in the United States are also listed on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website.
